Is It the Key to Your Success and Happiness?
Women’s empowerment coaching has become an important type of coaching as more women step into leadership positions. As a woman, it can be a struggle to find or embrace your identity. There are internal and external obstacles that can hold you back from fulfillment. Some of these obstacles include:
Low self-esteem and lack of confidence
Misalignment between your goals, values, and actions
Toxic relationships or unhealthy environments that hurt your growth
Women aren’t the only ones who have these experiences. However, we often face these situations. Outdated stereotypes and biases hold us back from living and leading how we want to live and lead.
In this blog, we’ll explore why women’s empowerment coaching is a necessity for the modern woman.
The Need for Women’s Empowerment Coaching
Many of us hesitate to get help, whether it’s in the form of coaching or therapy. It can be intimidating letting someone in and allowing them to guide and help you. However, getting support from an experienced, qualified professional is invaluable and an opportunity for growth.
Women’s empowerment coaching puts girls and women into new positions of life leadership. It can lead to significant transformations when applied to behavioral and thinking patterns. You might be able to find moments and methods of self-empowerment on your own. However, getting help from someone with similar lived experiences is often the key.
You might be wondering why I focus on women’s empowerment coaching. Of course, coaching can benefit men too. In fact, it’s great when those you’re closest to also want to work on themselves. I focus on female empowerment coaching because confidence and identity issues often hold women back in the workplace. It also affects their relationships and happiness outside of their careers.
Some studies have found that women in leadership roles have less confidence than men in those roles. They also appear to have less ambition regarding career progression¹. The women I know and work with are ambitious, so any lack of ambition often has a root cause. It could be that they exhibit less ambition because:
They lack confidence due to past experiences
Gender and race stereotypes make it difficult for them to progress
They haven’t been able to determine and embrace their identities due to a lack of safety and support (at home or anywhere else)
Mixed women and women of color often experience other unique obstacles in the workplace.
Unique Obstacles for Mixed Women
My empowerment coaching for women supports mixed women and girls, as well as women of color. One of the main reasons is that there’s a “concrete ceiling” for black women. I believe this extends to mixed women as well. These women face unique obstacles that are invisible². This barrier can be nearly impossible to break through, which is why it’s called the “concrete” ceiling.
Some factors that contribute to the concrete ceiling include:
Racism and sexism
Discrimination and stereotyping
Feelings of isolation and tokenism once they’re through the barrier
Maybe you struggle with your identity as a result of these experiences. It’s also possible your identity issues contribute to you feeling stuck and incapable. Either way, these barriers can affect you and your success in major ways.
My goal is to help you figure out who you want to be and how to embrace all that comes with it. The world needs you as you are.
What Does a Women’s Empowerment Coach Do?
Women’s empowerment coaching is for you if you’re a woman who wants to:
Develop a strong sense of pride and conviction in your identity
Do more for your career, relationships, and health (or do what you’re doing already with confidence)
Feel like you belong not because someone else tells you so but because you feel it in your soul and you know your worth/what you bring to the table
I created my female empowerment coaching programs to help you achieve your goals. We figure out how to do this without compromising who you are.
When we lack self-esteem, confidence, and empowerment, we tend to:
Engage in unhealthy habits and behaviors
Settle for relationships that are unhealthy, toxic, or detrimental to our growth
Stay stuck and unhappy in jobs that don’t support our passions, values, and goals
Chase happiness and fulfillment but struggle to find it because we either don’t think we deserve better or we don’t know how to get it
As a mixed woman, the ability to truly be yourself can open up so many doors for you in your personal and professional life.
Women’s Empowerment Coaching and the Workplace
Women are just as capable of being leaders as men are, yet internal and external factors hold us back from being powerful, confident leaders.
There are more women in leadership roles today than ever before, but we’re still a minority. This is partly due to social and psychological barriers in the workplace.
Gender bias
Leadership is often associated with male traits and styles due to stereotypes and outdated cultural norms³. The pressure to lead this way can create mental and emotional exhaustion for many women.
Racial discrimination
While men and women of other races may experience some bias and stereotyping, black women in leadership positions often have to contend with the “white male” leadership prototype.
Your sense of self is influenced by many external factors. Most of us go through childhood and adolescence without being aware of the roles and boxes we’ve been forced into in our homes and communities.
Research on the impact of self-esteem on career fulfillment is limited. However, multiple studies have demonstrated a relationship between high self-esteem and⁴:
Job satisfaction
Career success
Greater resilience in the face of setbacks and failure
Embracing your identity and developing a healthy sense of self-esteem can improve your life in more ways than one.
How Women’s Empowerment Coaching Can Help You at Home
Empowering yourself can also have a positive impact on your relationships with your partner, friends, and family.
A huge goal of empowerment coaching is teaching you to be confident in who you are, as well as helping you feel like you have more control over how you move forward and the person you become.
Feeling more confident in your identity, values, and goals can help you:
Set boundaries that protect your mental and physical energy so you can focus on what’s important to you
Take care of yourself and your priorities first so you’re not pouring from an empty cup and developing resentment
Communicate more effectively with the people in your life, which can help you improve your relationships and overall well-being
If you’re a parent, developing healthy self-esteem and a positive relationship with your identity can also help your children feel more comfortable with themselves.
Individuals with high self-esteem often have more successful relationships with others. When you love yourself, you’re more likely to choose people and situations that are healthier for you. You don’t easily welcome toxicity or negativity into your life.
