Dear Mixed Girl: Knowing Who You Are

Do you set yourself free when you speak of yourself?

Every little part of you is special and full of amazement.

Your stories, culture, and how you see the world come together to reveal legacy to all who encounter and communicate with you.

The history of your today was written through the minds of what could be when another ‘today’ was just beginning.

The things that you like are beautiful.

The languages you speak and songs you sing are music to God’s ears.

You are wonderful inside and out.

See yourself for all you are and never shift from place to place – you aren’t furniture to be displayed.

Don’t forget that your light shines brightest when you are truest to yourself.

Sincerely,
Dr. KayLa N. Allen-Young

More Words for the Girls Becoming Themselves

Dear Mixed Girl® is a growing collection of reflections, reminders, and conversations created for girls navigating identity, belonging, self-worth, and the experience of growing into themselves in a world that does not always make space for complexity.

Created by Dr. KayLa N. Allen-Young, the Dear Mixed Girl® platform extends beyond the letters through speaking, coaching, workshops, and educational experiences designed to support girls, families, schools, leaders in children-centered organizations, and the environments that shape young people every day.

No matter where you are in your journey, you deserve spaces that remind you who you are—not spaces that make you question your worth.
